Ram-don (Jjapaguri) in Parasite

Ram-don in Eight Minutes · ✓ Verified — editorial research

What happens

The housekeeper has eight minutes to produce jjapaguri — two humble instant noodles cooked together — topped with cubes of premium hanwoo sirloin. Cheap noodles under luxury beef: the film's whole class argument, plated. The subtitler's invented word 'ram-don' stuck worldwide.

The food: Ram-don (Jjapaguri) (짜파구리)

Jjapaguri (짜파구리) combines Chapagetti (black-bean instant noodle) and Neoguri (spicy seafood instant noodle) — a home hack Koreans loved long before the film. The hanwoo topping was the movie's twist.

Make it at home

  1. Boil one packet each of Chapagetti and Neoguri noodles together about 4 minutes; drain, keeping a few spoons of water.
  2. Add all of the Chapagetti black-bean powder and half the Neoguri soup powder, plus both oil sachets.
  3. Stir hard over low heat with the reserved water until glossy.
  4. Optional Parasite mode: sear cubed beef sirloin separately, season with salt, and pile on top.

Where to try it

Any Korean convenience store sells both noodles — our convenience-store ramyeon guide covers the machines and etiquette.
